Based on the Jung typology personality test, I lie within the introverted sensing feeling judging (ISFJ) see Appendix 1.  According to Vernon (2014),  personality plays a vital role in determining how we handle our careers and relationships (p. 2). Based on my personality trait, I have a strong sense of responsibility that makes it easier for me to promptly respond to different situations at the workplace.  I am a fast learner when it comes to grasping new concepts linked to my job description hence making me an effective employee at the place of work. The loyalty aspect is deeply ingrained in me making it easier for me to command trust from my colleagues and supervisors at the place of work.

I am in tune with my feelings an aspect that makes able to provide a caring perspective and a listening ear to my colleagues. The aspect makes it easier for me to always be informed of the current occurrence in the workplace. Furthermore, it provides me with an opportunity of handling problems before they escalate or providing reasonable suggestions to my fellow colleagues.

The test does reveal that I am introverted, more inclined towards sensing over intuition, feeling over thinking and judging over perceiving. I am reliable and hardworking when it comes to performing various tasks that require my attention. I am loyal and value trust and commitment when it comes to personal and works relationships. I am very observant and have a very active imagination that is quite beneficial when making decisions that will impact many people. Furthermore, I can also say that I am patient and supportive to those around me. I believe that we all need people around us to bring out the best in one another.

Despite my strengths, I have a number of weaknesses that limit me from achieving my full potential. The most prominent one is that I am reserved and humble an aspect that makes it easier for various opportunities to surpass me. Secondly, I have a very thin line when it comes to setting boundaries in my life. This makes me take various situations too personal that end up crowding my professional and personal relations. Thirdly, I hardly express what I am feeling with ease an aspect that increases my frustration levels.

Fourthly, I prefer routine to change, the reason for this is that, change is unpredictable and does make me anxious. I more inclined in having control on various aspects occurring in my life to enable me to plan, though change is good I often view it as a disruption. Lastly, I am a perfectionist and prefer handling the task on my own to delegating. The aspect does increase my workload, which in the end does result in high-stress levels.

According to Redmond and Bower (2015), job satisfaction refers to a situation where employees have a positive feeling when it comes to their job activities. High levels of job satisfaction take different forms based mainly on ones’ personality. ISFJ personality gets more satisfaction from organizations that are well established, they have clearly defined responsibilities, and are service oriented (Lin, 2015).

In my case, I more attracted to the service sector where I get to see my work impact other people’s lives. I find it as a way of seeing change the world in my own small way. When I am presented with an opportunity to work in a team I opt for the practical and pragmatic communication style. The style is beneficial as it helps all the members to effectively contribute hence coming up with sound strategize. In addition, as indicated in the paragraph above on ways of improving my weakness, team communication will reduce my reserved personality. Furthermore, it will increase my courage when it comes to voicing my perceptions on various issues.

Motivation takes two major forms that are monetary and non-monetary. My personality clearly inclines more towards the non-monetary than the monetary rewards, based on the various motivation books that I have read; I can easily say that I am most motivated when I handle the challenging task. I am more fulfilled when I am in the mix of doing difficult activities that require the input of my creativity. Furthermore, I am also motivated when my efforts are rewarded and least motivated when I have to work under constant supervision. Finally, I find motivation in flexible working hours that enable me to spend time with family and friends while still meeting my obligations.

In order for me to increase my strengths and work on my weaknesses, I need to read a lot of books that focus on various types of personalities. Understanding the people I interact with will help me project myself in a positive manner. In addition, I need to find a good counsellor who can help me learn to express my feelings. Furthermore, I need to start engaging in different organization activities that will reduce my shyness. Lastly, I need to learn how to delegate activities the aspect will reduce my perfectionism and provide me with an opportunity to form stable relationships.

Conclusion

I have learned that personality plays a significant role in influencing not only my perception in life but also my career choices. I am pleased that I have learned about my strengths and weakness that I can use to my advantage in different activities in my life. Finally, the assignment has given me an opportunity to incorporate the lessons readings on ways to stay motivated and derive job satisfaction at my workplace.
