What is public health preparedness?
Public health preparedness is the state where people and the nations are prepared and
protects against different health consequences. This is the role and responsibility of federal, local
and national health departments, the key role in health preparedness is ensuring that communities
are prepared from various disasters, emergencies are responded to and recovery process support
is provided (NACCHO, 2020).
Identify and describe an example of a policy that supports public health preparedness
One of the policies that support public health preparedness is disaster preparedness. This
policy is developed upon the readiness to identify and predict the possibility of disaster
occurrence, the ability to prevent disaster and the ability to decrease their impact. According to
this policy, the health care department should be able to deal with the different consequences of a
disaster at the national, state and local levels (International Federation of Red Cross and Red
Crescent Societies). Some of the organizations that help implement this policy include but not
limited to the Red Cross federation.

What are the roles of local, state, federal, and international governments in managing
global health emergencies?
All levels of government play significant roles in managing global health emergencies.
For example, the federal government is responsible for developing long-term plans that build and
provide financial support for state and local infrastructures (National Academy of Sciences,
2020). The state government is responsible for governance while the international governments
are responsible for policy development and providing leadership for implementation processes.
On the other hand, the local government is responsible for monitoring and assessing community
health issues and working in collaboration with the other levels of government to provide health
solutions to the communities.
Describe how diseases and disasters can impact national and global security and the
impact on public health policy.
Diseases and disasters can impact both global and national security based on matters of
economic decline. For example, if the nation spends most of its resources and finances to ensure
that its people are in good health by dealing with various diseases and disasters, they might not
have enough finances to fund the security systems. On the other hand, diseases and disasters
affect the economy of a state and this direct impact on the security and development of health
policies.
