Influence of Patient Care on the Career and Profession

Scribe how the patient care you have provided has influenced your career and your
decision to continue your education? How do you see yourself contributing to the nursing

profession?

As a licensed practicing nurse, I have been motivated by the patient care that I provide to
pursue further education and I am currently pursuing a RN degree. As a practicing nurse, I have
gained experience and I am, therefore, able to know the fields that I can specialize in and the
areas that I need to gain more knowledge in (Harrington, & Terry, 2008). As a LPN, I decided to
pursue a RN degree because it provides more knowledge and is much wider than the LPN. I have
been able to know that the scope of an LPN nurse is limited than that of RN and that is why I
decided to pursue RN so that I can improve the quality of nursing care that I offer to patients. RN
nursing helps practicing nurses to administer safer and patient-centered nursing care in hospitals,
homes, nursing homes, clinics and other medical facilities. By pursuing a degree in RN, I will be
able to improve to sound theoretical practice of professional nursing (Harrington, & Terry,
2008). Practicing as a licensed practicing nurse has helped me to see to it clearly that there is
need for me to expand my skills and knowledge in assessment, planning, implementation,
diagnosis, and evaluation of care required by patients. The health care sector is becoming
complex everyday and this call for more expertise. As a result of this, I took advantage of the
opportunity to pursue a RN degree so that I can be in a better position to adapt to the changing
environment (Harrington, & Terry, 2008).
Moreover, I was able to analyze the job opportunities of the people who are licensed
practicing nurses and registered nurses. Through this analysis, I identified that there is a lot of
competition in the field of LPN nurses and pursuing a degree in RN outs me in a better position
to compete favorably in the market. This enabled me to improve my profession because I am
able to see that with more qualifications I will be able to go up the ladder in my career
(Harrington, & Terry, 2008).
Through the experience that I have acquired as LPN nurse, I was able to make a proper
decision on whatever degree I would pursue so as to better my career position. Through pursuing
a RN degree I will be able to play an influential role in the nursing profession by ensuring that
quality care is provided to patients. This will lead to overall improvement of nursing care
provision in the health sector. I will be able to improve the nursing profession by advocating for
health goals of people of all ages. In this way, there will be improvements in nursing outcomes
and also improving the perception of the nursing profession (Harrington, & Terry, 2008).
Through this, I will serve as an example for other nurses to emulate. I will also improve nurse’s

accountability in the profession and provide a full range of care, assess changes, set right
priorities, be able to determine any need for additional resources. I will also be able to improve
the nursing profession providing a good governance system that addresses all nursing practice
issues (Harrington, & Terry, 2008).
