Recommendation 4: How to increase the number of nurses with Baccalaureate Degree to
80% by 2020.
Currently, obtaining a baccalaureate degree is an important step among nursing student
because they get the chance of becoming fully registered by the American Nursing Association.
According to Johnston (2009), getting a baccalaureate also provide nurses with adequate skills
that are applied by most medical practitioners in improving nursing practices. Therefore, proper
measures should be put in place in increasing the number of baccalaureate degree nurses
globally. Some of the recommended ways of increasing the number of nurses with baccalaureate
degree as found by Johnston (2009) include creating education and awareness on the importance
of baccalaureate degree to nursing student pursuing diploma and higher diploma in nursing. For

instance, nursing student without baccalaureate degree should be informed that baccalaureate
degree provide nursing students with adequate skills and experience on nursing practices that
relates to both socioeconomic, political and cultural issues. Additionally, nursing students with
baccalaureate degree can be nursing lecturers as well as medical practitioners; hence, they have
wide range of job selection (Johnston, 2009). Providing such information to nursing students will
increase their interest in obtaining baccalaureate degree by 2020.
Recommendation 5: Doubling Nurses with Doctorate by 2020
Due to high demand for better nursing practices globally, increasing the number of nurses
with Doctorate should be realized by 2020. This will solve various problems that are faced
within the nursing fraternity. One of the approaches of increasing the number of nursing student
to take Doctorate program is through setting up of institutions centers that provide nurses with
scholarship as many students may not pursue Doctorate in nursing due to lack learning funds
(Johnston, 2009). Another approach of increasing number of students taking Doctorate is through
positive outlook of the nursing so as to encourage more students to take learning as their
preferred courses. Moreover, increase in number of students taking Doctorate in nursing may be
achieved through setting institution that provide practical lessons and seminars about nursing so
as to make more students join nursing fraternity.
Recommendation 6: Ensuring Nursing Students to engaged in Lifelong Learning
Nursing, just like any other learning profession, requires continuous learning in order for
nursing practitioners to gain more experience and skills with the rapid changes and development
within the nursing sector. Consequently, nurses need to attend seminars and other organized
programs on nursing even after obtaining Doctorate in nursing. Through these seminars, they

will be in the position of learning new emergence and trends in nursing so as to keep them more
informed on nursing development (Johnston, 2009). The other approach that one may used to
encourage nurses in lifelong learning is by coming up with programs that focus in nursing then
ensuring these nurses take part in such programs. Such programs will keep them informed and
encourage them to read more to deliver accurate information to the people.
Impact of Increasing Education Level to the Competitive Job Market
Competition within the current market is stiff due to increase of number of nursing
practitioners globally. Therefore, through increase in education level has positive impact within
the job market. For instance, increasing level of education makes one to gain more knowledge in
the their areas of specialization, which provide an upper hand in providing better nursing
services to patients (Johnston, 2009). Moreover, better education helps nursing practitioners to
develop better relation with their clients resulting to the attraction of customers; hence, better
development of skills and experience.
Impact of Education in Future Underrating
Obtaining high level of education is important as it improve work performance in the
future. For instance, it will help in providing better nursing services. Apart from provision of
better nursing practices, getting higher education is important because it will help in creating
better working environment as it prepares one to respect various ethical issues relating to nursing
(Johnston, 2009).
