Health in All Policies
Problem statement
One of the significant problems that are associated with the development and
implementation of policies in the healthcare sector is the ability to integrate the law of
collaboration. For example, HiAP provides useful insights that can be used in enhancing the
development of healthcare policies that support interpectoral collaboration. These policies help
in enhancing health equity. The problem is what can approach can be taken to ensure that these
policies and laws are implemented based on similar approaches both at the state and local levels?
Background
Studies have shown that there is a need to implement changes in the policy development
process within the healthcare sector. HiAP strategies are being used to help policymakers and
leaders in this sector to be able to develop policies and laws that take into consideration of key
health issues and support collaboration (Pepin et al., 2017). HiAP policies and strategies are

developed based on common elements, this aspect is demonstrated in their emerging trends. In
various states where these policies are applied, there is an indication that collaboration among
the different policymakers and the government plays a significant role in improving service
delivery in healthcare and enhancing equity.
Landscape
The issue of developing HiAP policies should involve various stakeholders’
contributions. Some of the key stakeholders include the government, healthcare representatives
and the private sectors (Pepin et al., 2017).
Options
Various approaches can be applied to help solve this problem, one of the approaches, as
indicated by Richmond’s framework, is the recognition of the need to social determinants of
health that are affecting the society as a whole. This framework will increase intersectoral
collaboration during healthcare policy development.
Recommendation
Based on the findings above it can be recommended that the government together with
other public and private sectors work together to support the implementation of the HiAP
policies and low at both state and local levels.
