terms of employee recruitment and selection.
Significance of the topic
Employee recruitment and selection is one the important processes in any organization.
An organization that expects to achieve its goals must have good leaders with vision and
achievable objectives. Visionary leadership will definitely ensure that it attracts competent and
skillful employees. An organization with the capability to create a large pool of competence
applicants is geared to achieve its goals. Recruitment and selection must be on competitive level

this topic is important to the organization because it ensures that best candidates are recruited to
contribute in achievement of the set goals.
Literature review
In many organizations, employees come from different backgrounds and therefore have
different levels of skills and competencies. It therefore becomes essential for an effective leader
to help bring these individuals together. Leadership is understood as taking a place in a situation
as leaders and followers share a formal group of membership. Leadership is essential in
enhancing collaboration among formal groups in an entity. The leadership of an entity must
come up with best practices in the recruitment and selection process. The benefit of adhering to
best practices in selection and recruitment is that an entity is able to attract better and qualified
employees that have similar vision like that of the entity (Absar, 2012). The recruitment and
selection process must also be fair in the sense that the entire applicant should be assessed on

Leadership plays a role in these processes of recruitment and selection (Hogg, Van
Knippenberg & Rast, 2012). Leaders must be individual that should have the capability of
uniting the followers and bring them together to pursue common goals. They should set
examples by allowing employees to engage in the decisions pertaining to recruitment and
selection. This helps to enhance cooperation and teamwork which has become pillars of success.
In most of the organization currently, leaders motivate and mobilize their followers
towards a common goal for the benefit and success of the entity. Intergroup challenges such as
cross national, ethnicity, ethics, religious boundaries pose challenges to intergroup
collaborations. Such challenges require a committed leadership to help prevent such disruptive
conflicts between groups.
Application to nursing
Selection and recruitment is also very important in nursing. Decisions relating to
recruitment and selection in nursing have consequences and therefore should be done with a lot
of care and professionalism. Nurses have specialized skills in provision of nursing services. The
recruitment and selection process should therefore ensure that competent people are selected.
They should also be individuals with good morals and better understanding of ethics in their
service delivery (Marquis & Huston, 2012). Some of the consequences for nursing leaders in the
recruitment and selection process are failure to attract people that have requisite skills and
competences to execute their duties diligently. This therefore affects healthcare service
provisions. Benefits of effective nursing leaders in recruitment and selection are that they ensure
that competent employees are recruited to offer their health services hence impacting positively
on the health care.
