In this Assignment you should include the following:
� State at least three Behavioral Expectations. Remember these should be clearly defined;
be simple; and be positively framed.
� Describe the manner in which you will explicitly teach the expectations.
� For each Behavioral expectation, present at least one “right way” and at least one
“wrong way” to engage in the behavior to use as examples when presenting the program to
professionals and students.
� Specify the manner in which your school will reward appropriate behaviors. Remember
that there should be a ratio of about 4 adult positive interactions for each corrective or
negative interaction with a student. Remember to specify the dimensions of the behavior
and the criteria that need to be met for the school-wide reward to be delivered.
� Outline the specific error correction procedures when a student violates behavioral
expectations.
� Outline the data collection methods you will use to determine whether the program is
effective and help make decisions on changes to be made to the SWPBS program.

Behavioral Expectations
For better performance among students within different levels of education to be realized,
Howard (2013) found that developing and maintaining better behaviors among students remain a

major factor. Therefore, students must ensure that they portray appropriate behaviors based on
the principles and regulations that govern their conducts while in school. Students being human
beings, they are also prone to mistakes; hence, in order to assist them develop and maintain
apposite conducts; learning institutions must ensure they develop and enforce better students’
management plan. These include coming up with well defined norms for their students and some
of the consequences that students need to face in the process of breaking the set rules and
regulations (Howard, 2013). For instance, a student who causes disruption in class when lessons
are on may face disciplinary action. Some of the advantages of developing and maintaining
better behaviors among students include having better relations with other students and teachers,
it improves students’ performances and it helps students to develop better morals within them.
Although there are various behavioral expectations that are demanded from students,
some of the most important behavioral expectations from students include being respectful to all,
attend classes in time and pay attention during class lessons, be responsible and should not have
discussion with other students when lecturers are on (PBIS, n.d.). Having respect to all demands
that students should show respect to their lecturers by following instructions and guidance
provided by their lecturers and they should respect one another as students. Moreover, students
are expected to respect other supporting and subordinate staffs. Students are also expected to
attend classes in time and pay attention to the lectures. For instance, students should not direct
their tutors to go through some of the learning materials that were discussed in their absence.
Instead, they should look for these materials and conduct their private learning with other
students or even lecturers but not during class time. Additionally, should are expected to be
responsible by taking class assignment and examinations, dressing decently and using better
language when talking to their lecturers and other students as revealed by Howard (2013).

In teaching the above students behavioral expectations, it is required that relevant
examples are used. For instance, in explaining the importance of being respectful among
students, quoting of some respectful students who perform well should be used. Using real and
available examples will help students to have better understanding on the advantages of the
above behavioral expectations (PBIS, n.d.). Another approach of teaching the above behavioral
expectation is through taking students to other schools where the above student’s expectations
are practiced. This will helps them to observe their colleagues behaviors, study and react with
these students in order to discover and understand the importance of developing and maintaining
positive behaviors in school. Moreover, the last approach in teaching the above behavioral
expectation is through having programs and creating awareness on the importance of developing
and maintaining appropriate behavioral expectations among students.
For the development and maintaining of better behavioral expectations among students to
be achieved by learning institutions, schools should develop better strategies towards motivating
their students. For instance, to encourage students to be respectful, students who show respect to
their teachers and other students should be promoted to be leaders such as student leaders, class
secretaries and other student’s positions in schools (Howard, 2013). Similarly, the best and
appropriate approach of motivating students who attend their classes in time and ensure they
concentrate during learning should be given presents when they perform well in their studies and
examinations. Such actions will also help in motivating other students to develop and maintain
better behaviors in school as well as within their society. Additionally, students who show some
responsibility such as having better language and dress codes and take part in class activities
should be motivated through recognition. This is the motivation approach where these students

are recognized by the institutions in various ways. For instance, an institution can nominate and
reward a student because of being neat.
School environment being a society with students from different background and cultural
practices, not all the students are expected to develop and maintain good behaviors. Thus,
learning institutions must ensure that they have in place certain acts that need to be taken in case
a student breaks norms governing behavioral expectations (Howard, 2013). Hence, some of the
consequences that may be available for students with behaviors contrary to school rules and
regulations include facing of the disciplinary committee constituted by the organization, banning
of students from attending some class lessons and expulsion in case the behaviors are extreme.
Therefore, in order to avoid the above consequences, students will be expected to behave as
demanded by the principles and norms of the organization.
After ensuring that better rules have been constituted and all the students have been
informed, the next stage is the implementation and operations of the rules. In order to determine
the effects of the rules, an appropriate data collection method would be required. One of the best
data collection methods for determining the effects of norms governing behavioral expectation
among students is observation. This can be conducted through attending lessons while noticing
the behaviors of students during lessons, checking class attendance progress, observing timing
especially when lecturers find students when they are already in class or there are some lateness
still being observed and analyzing reported cases relating to behavioral expectations (Howard,
2013). Otherwise, developing and maintaining better behavioral expectations is an important tool
towards better performance and should be enforced within learning institutions.
