Final Project Part 2
Please refer to the MPH Field Experience Handbook while completing this Project.
Instructions
For this Project, you will form an action plan, addressing how you will find a site for your
field experience. Please submit a 1 page paper in which you describe the types of
organizations that you intend to contact. Include 3 examples in your paper and describe
how each example services as a public health entity. Your response should conclude with
addressing the following questions:
What would you do if you cannot find a site within 30 miles from your home? (Hint:
Travel may be needed.)
What would you do if you cannot find a site after calling 30 organizations? (Hint: Keep
trying.)
Guidance
You may find HealthFinderTM useful in determining these organizations. Here is a link
that may be helpful.
Source: Find a Health Organization: HealthFindere.
Also, if you seek out a medical facility, you must ensure that this facility has a non-medical,
public health function. Remember, medicine is not the same as public health
Important note: You will not contact sites until PU550. Please save this information to your
computer and continue to prepare for PU550.

Final Project Part 2
While deciding the field experience site, it is important to find the best site. I will
contact the people I know in order to get contacts within specific organizations. In case I do not
know anyone who can connect me, then I will network online through the LinkedIn. I will update
my LinkedIn profile which will provide me with a chance to join the public health groups either
national wide, in the state or in the local level. I can also connect with the people in the LinkedIn
who will be helpful especially in the networking purposes. I should also be proactive to secure a
field experience site. I should ensure that I contact the organizations directly via a cold call. It is
more effective to speak with the manager of the human resource department. If the specific
organization do not have the human resource department, then it will be important to talk to the

hiring manager or the general manager. These people will help providing adequate information
which I will require (Mor et al., 2009).
Finding a local site near the home will be of more benefit as I will not incur the
lodging and other expenses. If there is no site near home then I will have to travel to find one. It
may be frustrating if I don’t find a site after visiting 30 or more organizations. I will however
keep trying. I will not lose hope. Identifying possible fields experience sites in other states will
be of great benefit to my career. If I find a field experience site in another state, I will be required
to plan for my travel lodge and food expenses (Mor et al., 2009).
I would like organizations which have quality services. They should afford modern
facilities which will be of benefit to my career. I would prefer, University of Texas MD
Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Cleveland Clinic or Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
