Articulate one or more strategic or program goals of your practicum organization. How do
these goals relate to national e-health priorities and health IT goals for improving public
and population health?
PUB 680
At my practicum organization, several strategic and program goals are applied to facilitate the
development and exhibition of professionalism in their performance across work settings. These
goals include the internalization of professionalism that drives public health and social workers
to act, feel, and think according to the profession’s values and responsibilities. These are
followed closely by the analysis and assessment of the individuals’ professional activities and the
acceptance of a continuous responsibility for their professional development (Phelps et al. 2016).
The second goal entails using techniques such as inquiries, assessment, analytical practices,
strategic planning, and actions aimed at implementing change strategies in various tasks related
to solving problems and across community settings. Most fundamentally, as an evaluated,
planned, and supervised practice experience, the third goal of my practicum organization entails
the provision of an opportunity for the synthesis, integration, and application of practical skills
and training acquired through the courses (Phelps et al. 2016). This way, professionalism will be
gained while working in a professional public health environment and practice projects that are
of particular interest to an individual.
PUB 680 2
These strategic and program goals align with those of the national e-Health priorities and
health IT for improving public health. They both give precedence to the comprehension and
identification of the specific health needs facing a particular population. More precisely, the
goals in both forums focus on the accuracy and relevance of data as the essential components for
laying out strategic plans in the promotion of health outcomes (ONC, 2020). As pointed by
Phelps et al. (2016), public health programs excel in sequences of epidemiological training, and
the practicum organization has prioritized such measures. For instance, it ensures that the
placement of students and potential public health officials acquire the necessary skills that would
guarantee their contribution to a community’s resources and the solutions to public health
problems. Similarly, the national e-health and health IT goals focus on improving the country’s
health and well-being through the development and implementation of resilient health IT
infrastructure (ONC, 2020).
