Both the cover letter and resume should be formally written using a professionally accepted format.

Share your resume with a colleague and elicit their feedback. Revise your resume if needed and submit the resume in the assignment section of the course.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Resume

An effective nursing CV or resume needs to be written using a chronological CV format, and the applicant has to focus on the medical fields that he/she specializes in (Cardillo, 2010). Academic achievements and career should all be listed by date order, with the latest being listed first (Dunne, 2012; McKinney, 2011). Below is my cover letter and resume for a nursing post at Gertrude’s Hospital, Washington, DC.

I am a competent practice nurse with 3 years of experience offering high quality care to varied and diverse patients. I have a Master’s qualification in nursing, and I am now focusing on attaining a Doctorate Degree in this field. I aim to leverage both my knowledge and experience to fill the nursing post at your healthcare facility.

Professional objectives: to gain expertise in wound dressing and sexual health.

Professional interests: to gain expertise in diabetes/asthma care and cervical smears.

Strengths as an applicant: focused, sympathetic, and attention to detail individual.

PRACTICE NURSE  June 2012 – Present

In charge of managing the health center and ensuring that every treatment room is organized and every appointment is running smoothly. Evaluating the patients’ nursing needs and provide suitable treatment and care together with the GP.

  • Administering vaccines;
  • Managing the nursing team and providing leadership
  • Conducting staff appraisals
  • Managing patients who had chronic illnesses
  • Maintaining and reviewing the policies and procedures of the hospital.
