Introduction, Research Questions, and 8-entry Annotated Bibliography
The assignment:
Prepare the following:
An APA formatted reference list entry for each of the 8 articles that you have found.
A 1-paragraph summary, following Creswell’s guidelines, of each article that you have
found.
A brief rationale for the selection of each item. Within each rationale, identify any gaps in
the knowledge or deficiencies that justify your research and whether not the article
supports or detracts from existing research.
An introduction to your proposed study.
A purpose statement for your proposed study.
A research question (or questions) and a justification of its viability
A hypothesis (or hypotheses) and a justification of its viability (if your proposed study is
qualitative, there will be no hypothesis)
This is the 8 articles

Introduction, Research Questions, and 8-entry Annotated Bibliography

Introduction
Various researchers have conducted different studies that pertain to different aspects that affect
the society. This proposed study evaluates these researches depth to better understand them and
identify some of the gaps.
Purpose statement
The study intends to evaluate different researches in different fields
Research question
What is the type of the study?
Annotated Bibliography
Gagnon, M. A., Jansen, K. J. & Michael, J. H. (2008). Employee alignment with strategic
change: A study of strategy-supportive behavior among blue-collar employees, Journal of
Managerial Issues, 20(4), 425–443.
In this study, the authors wanted to understand the antecedents of alignment by examining the
role a person’s strategic knowledge and commitment play in engagement in strategy supportive
behavior. The global understanding of a strategy that an organization is pursuing is important in
ensuring that there is commitment towards supporting the strategy. Most employees may not be
aware of the strategy and therefore, training and improvement of communication issues relating

to strategic changes process helps them to support such strategies that contribute to achievement
of the organization’s goals. This research has some limitations, one of them is that, the process of
sampling was not done appropriately and this posed the risk of selecting wrong target group.
Therefore, the validity of the study was at a threat. The reason of selecting the article is that it is
valid and reliable because of intensive research conducted.
Larossa, R. (2005). Grounded theory methods and qualitative family research, Journal of
Marriage and Family, 67(4), 837–857.
Grounded theory is the most popular kind of research used by researchers. Barney Glaser and
Anselm Strauss developed this kind of research and it is popularly used to conduct researches in
family. The research relies on five principles and in interpreting the three major phases in GTM,
which are coding; open, axial and selective. The fact that the theory is interpretive makes it
effective in various qualitative researches. The rationale for selecting this article is that it
provides in-depth information about grounded theory methods that are adopted in many
qualitative researches. Therefore, it provides more information and enhances my understanding.
The study has no gaps, as it is mostly a review of other researchers.
Patten, C. A., Peterson, L. R., Brockman, T. A., Gerber, T., Offord, K., Ebbert, O., et al. (2008).
Development of a telephone-based intervention for support persons to help smokers quit,
Psychology, Health, and Medicine, 13(1), 17–28.
The study investigated on how to use telephone based interventions to help smokers to quit. In
the study, the researchers’ findings suggested that, using telephone intervention helped to some
level in reducing or making people to quit smoking. The reason for selecting the research is that
it is reliable and valid because of the appropriate research methods adopted and the process of

data collection. One of the limitations is that the study adopted a quantitative research design
instead of qualitative.
Mendenhall, T., & Doherty, W. (2007). Partners in diabetes: Action research in a primary care
setting, Action Research, 5(4), 378–406.
Diabetes is a problem that is threatening both individual health and healthcare systems in most
of industrialized countries. Formation of partners in Diabetes brings together families, patients
and providers in primary care setting in United States. The project has challenges that it
encountered and which require appropriate strategies to solve them. The rationale for selecting
the article is that it provides valuable knowledge about Partners in Diabetes enhancing
understanding of its functions. The gap or the limitation is generalizability and personal biasness.
Feiock, R. C., Steinacker, A., & Park, H. J. (2009). Institutional collective action and economic
development joint ventures. Public Administration Review (69)2, 256–270.
Cooperation has become important in improving economic situations of various countries. Joint
gains emerge in various conditions such as urgency, little information, and division costs.
Institutional collective action provides coherence through explanation model for cooperation
behaviors. The reason or rationale for selecting the article is to understand how cooperation helps
to stimulate economy.
Alexander, J. & Nank, R. (2009). Public–Nonprofit partnership: Realizing the new public
service, Administration & Society (41)3, 364–386.
Researchers uses a longitudinal study to track the generation of nine community based nonprofit
public agencies over a period of ten years. Ideological consensus helped to enhance trust

through sharing of information, authority and integrated responsibilities and collaborative
decision making. This study is essential as it helps to enhance understanding of how public
nonprofit partnership operate and has developed over the years.
Blanco, M., & Pacheco, E. (2009). Aging and the family-work link: A comparative analysis of
two generation of Mexican women, Journal of Comparative Family Studies, 40 (2), 143–166
The researchers aimed at understanding how age affects the links or the family tie in two
generations of women. As generations come and go, they tend to adapt to different attitudes and
perception about age. Age is important and it helps in defining who an individual is. There are
no wide differences in terms of perception of age between the two generations. The rationle of
the choice of the article is to enhance my understanding of how qualitative studies can be
adopted in a research.
Felder, P. (2010). On doctoral student development: Exploring faculty mentoring in the shaping
of African American doctoral student success, Qualitative Report, 15(2):455-474
The study examines the influence of faculty mentorship in shaping of the African American
doctoral student success. The researchers used a case analysis in investigation of the belief
system and one phase semi structured interview protocol was adopted in data collection. The
finding of the study is completion of the doctoral degree among African Americans is
complicated because of the student perception of faculty advising, lack of diverse faculty
leadership and faculty behavior. The rationale for selecting the study is that is credible and
reliable because of the intensive research done. The limitation is generalizability.
