Speech on Nursing Education
The state of healthcare in a nation has a direct bearing on the performance of the country
economically due to the fact that this will impact the workforce. As a result, efforts are being
continually being made to improve upon the quality of healthcare that is accessible to the general
population. Majority of these changes are made within the healthcare system’s medical facilities
and financing programs. Of all professionals who are engaged in the healthcare sector in the
United States and pretty much the rest of the world, nurses get to have a lot of contact hours with
patients (Halstead, 2012). This gives them a vantage point with regard to the continued
improvement of the quality of healthcare people can receive in the United States of America.
Given that all improvements being made today are geared towards future positive results it is
crucial to make improvements in the training syllabi that nurses follow prior to being engaged in
the healthcare system. At the same time there is a marked shift in healthcare provision and this is
reducing the demand for nurses in acute care facilities and directing them to a system that has

Accountable Care Organizations is an emerging system in which healthcare professionals and
establishment operate as groups which are charged with the responsibility of providing their
services to a select group of individuals. These providers will be receiving funds meant for the
Medicare of this patients as a lump sum in somewhat of a shared or pooled resource system and
this will oblige them to share the monies meant for patients’ healthcare. What this means is that
the nurses of tomorrow will have access to a select number of patients rather than having a more
unpredictable collection of individuals.
Continuity of care is another emerging concept in which nurses’ work together with other
healthcare providers to ensure that the next professional to handle the patient has all the relevant
information about patient history and ongoing intervention measures. The significance of this is
that it eliminates the risk of costly omissions of crucial data or medication that normally
jeopardizes healthcare.
Medical homes are patient-centric facility that aims to give the patient the highest possible
improvement in health through the use of a team of professionals working together under a
physician’s guidance.
Nurse-managed clinics are meant to improve the primary care being given to patients by the
professionals. Other than the medical regimes and other prescriptions issued by physicians, it is
necessary to pay extra attention to the recovery process and this is where nurses come in as they
can help hasten this process and monitor for any changes be it the betterment or the worsening of
the patients’ situations.
For the nurses of tomorrow to be prepared for these changes in the healthcare provision system
of the United States of America, it will be very important to include units that touch on these
forms of healthcare both in the theoretical and practical aspects. The effect of this will be a
higher caliber of nurses whose services will then improve upon the entire country’s healthcare
system (McCormack et al, 2013).
