Mega-Problems in Public Health:

Regardless of the fact that individual countries are weighed down by regional health issues, there exist mega-problems in the public health sector, which reaches global proportions. With the increased terrorist activities globally, there is a need for government agencies and health professionals’ representatives at the local, provincial, and state levels to identify the unaddressed response needs and cross-border emergency preparedness, as well as develop strategies through which the needs can be addressed (Wittes, 2012). There should be a system for secure and rapid information exchange. More importantly, there is a need for specific quarantine and isolation protocols involving multi-state responses. There should be application of a coordinated system-wide strategy to public health practice (Wittes, 2012).

In the present day global economy, there is immense interdependence due to the rapid movement of values, products, and people across borders. As a result of the increased exchange, there is an increased public health risk. Such issues cannot be addressed by professional, jurisdictional, and geopolitical considerations alone; there is a need for cooperation and collaboration between people operating without borders (Wittes, 2012). Public health programs are essential in training reassigned and new staff operating in the challenging areas involving cross-border issues. In the presence of a leadership history in public health workforce development and public health preparedness, the public health schools and programs can offer a cooperation and collaboration forum for state and local public health professionals who are challenged with recovery, response, and preparedness for all urgent public health threats.
