Leadership Style Inventory

USE THE FOLLOWING REPORT FOR THE LEADERSHIP INVENTORY:
Your Keirsey Temperament Sorter Results indicates that your personality type is that of
the
Guardians (SJ’s) are the cornerstone of society, for they are the temperament given to
serving and preserving our most important social institutions. Guardians have natural
talent in managing goods and services–from supervision to maintenance and supply — and
they use all their skills to keep things running smoothly in their families, communities,
schools, churches, hospitals, and businesses.
Guardians can have a lot of fun with their friends, but they are quite serious about their
duties and responsibilities. Guardians take pride in being dependable and trustworthy; if
there’s a job to be done, they can be counted on to put their shoulder to the wheel.
Guardians also believe in law and order, and sometimes worry that respect for authority,
even a fundamental sense of right and wrong, is being lost. Perhaps this is why Guardians
honor customs and traditions so strongly — they are familiar patterns that help bring
stability to our modern, fast-paced world.
Practical and down-to-earth, Guardians believe in following the rules and cooperating with
others. They are not very comfortable winging it or blazing new trails; working steadily
within the system is the Guardian way, for in the long run loyalty, discipline, and
teamwork get the job done right. Guardians are meticulous about schedules and have a
sharp eye for proper procedures. They are cautious about change, even though they know
that change can be healthy for an institution. Better to go slowly, they say, and look before
you leap.
Guardians make up as much as 40 to 45 percent of the population, and a good thing,
because they usually end up doing all the indispensable but thankless jobs everyone else
takes for granted.
As a Provider (ESFJ), you can be very cooperative and enjoy serving the needs of people,
especially those close to you. You approach tasks in an organized and thoughtful matter
and are excellent with follow through and detail work. You enjoy working on projects that
improve situations for people and enjoy working on committees and organizing
celebrations. You are the keepers of tradition like special holidays, and go to great lengths
to make sure people are cared and provided for.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PAPER
Effective leaders have a high degree of self-awareness and know how to leverage their
strengths in the workplace. Assessments are a valuable tool that professionals can use to
learn more about themselves and consider how their temperament and preferences
influence their interactions with others.
To further your self-knowledge, you are required to complete the Kiersey Temperament
Sorter and the DiSC assessment, as indicated in this week’s Learning Resources. In
addition, you are encouraged to take or review additional assessments (e.g., Myers-Briggs,
a 360-degree evaluation) on your own.
As you engage in this learning process, it is important to remember that everyone-
regardless of temperament type or related preferences-experiences some challenges with
regard to leadership. The key to success is being able to recognize and leverage your own
strengths while honoring differences among your colleagues.

Leadership Style Inventory

Leadership is essential in the management of an institution. Leadership is the process
whereby a leader provides direction and guidance to a team to achieve the objective, the vision
held by the leader, or that objectives held by both the leader and the followers (Marquis &
Huston, 2012). A leader must be aware of self to achieve his or her objectives as a leader.
Different leaders have different leadership styles revealed through how they relate with others in

the organization and outside the organization. The paper delineates on various aspects
concerning leadership style.
My leadership style is democratic. As a leader, I believe in working together with my
followers. I usually engage them in the decision-making process especially on aspects that
concerns them. I am a leader that understands the importance of incorporating the followers in
the leadership because they are important people that have ideas and views that can help to
achieve my vision. Understanding ones leadership styles requires an individual to carry out
various personality tests that have been proven effective in identifying ones personality (Marquis
& Huston, 2012). I have a natural talent in managing and supervising and this has enabled me to
provide positive leadership. Another strength that I have is that I have positive relationship with
the followers, which allows me to execute my responsibilities and duties diligently. I always
endeavor to serving and preserving the values and norms of the institution I am leading and
this has allowed me to ensure that I address all the concerns of the followers by listening to
them and encouraging them.
Furthermore, my strength of leading others is the fact that I respect law and order. I do
that which is right and as the law requires of me. This has enabled me to provide positive
leadership. I am also a loyal, disciplined and meticulous about schedules and procedures. This is
something that has helped me to provide good leadership. Other strengths include being
courageous, broad-minded, competent and honesty.
In any leadership style, people encounter different challenges. In the previous years, I
too experienced various challenges. One of the challenges that I experienced was communication
failures and increased level of uncompleted projects (Marquis & Huston, 2012). This challenges
manifested in situations when there were uncertainties in definition of roles. It was a challenge

to incorporate the views of the people and this contributed to the failure to achieve the goals as a
leader. Another related challenge is misunderstanding between the leader and the followers
especially when I was leading followers that had low level of skills compared to me. Getting
them to understand my point of views became a challenge that nearly compromised on my
leadership.
Therefore, because of these challenges and pitfalls, I yearn to improve my leadership
competencies and effectiveness even as I advance in my own personal development. One way
that I do plan towards improvement of my leadership competencies and effectiveness is to take
time to understand myself by identifying my strengths and weakest points. This will allow me
an opportunity to understand myself better and to work on the areas of weakness. I also plan to
acquire more skills and coaching in leadership. This training will allow me to understand in
detail the various aspects of leadership making me a better and an effective leader. Furthermore,
I plan to improve leadership competencies by putting into practice various ideals that concerns
good leadership such as remaining honesty and ensuring that decisions that I make are consistent
with the laws and orders.
In conclusion, leadership is essential in ensuring that an institution succeeds in its
endeavor. Every person has his or her own leadership styles but the most important thing is to
ensure that the goals and the visions are achieved. There are also challenges in leadership that
require effective approach to mitigate them.
