Leadership Style

A leader is a person that provides direction, implements plans and motivates followers.
An organization or an entity that lacks effective leadership is deemed to fail (Limbare, 2012).
Different leaders also exhibit different leadership styles in providing leadership to their
followers.
A leader must have certain qualities and attributes to lead. These attributes include;
wisdom to make wise decisions, ability to solve conflicts, intelligent, organization among others.
Various leadership styles are available such; as democratic, authoritative and laissez-faire. The
leader of my organization exhibits democratic leadership style (Limbare, 2012). The leader is
open and allows discussion and sharing of ideas as well as encouraging people to feel positive
about the organization. The characteristics that informed my perception about this is that the
leader is intelligent, competent, broad minded, inspiring, fair minded and gives the followers an
opportunity to contribute in the decision making process.
In my own leadership style, I will integrate democracy and laissez faire. The reason for
this is because; it will enable me to work well with my followers. They will be inspired and
motivated to work harder because they will have a sense of belonging. I will use laissez faire
because the followers are highly skilled, educated and experienced and they are trustworthy as
well. The democractic style will help me to create a conducive working environment. I will not

prefer to integrate authoritative leadership style because; it may make some of the followers
fearful and perceive my leadership as dictatorial.
One potential effect of this democratic leadership style on health care quality and patient
outcomes is that it helps to motivate the followers as it incorporates their views and opinions in
the decision-making. This makes them to be satisfied and feel loved and valued hence impacting
positively on their quality of healthcare service they provide to patients.
