How You See Yourself Fitting Into the Following IOM Future of Nursing
As a high school student, I will complete my O-levels and enroll for an Associate Degree
course which if everything goes as planned I shall complete after two years as per the curriculum
which will be followed by my registration by NCLERX-RN for my licensure and, therefore,
qualification as a Registered Nurse. In the health the care system, the Associate Degree Nurse
(ASN) is trained on and possesses skills to be a care provider, care manager, and a nursing
community member and these are the roles I will play in the health care system after my
licensure. Patients require psychological safety these will be provided through communication
and the application of communication skills while promoting to the patient. In addition, I can
also be a teacher. The role I shall play under this docket is the developing and establishing

patient care programs. These programs and the actual teaching require a consideration patient’s
knowledge and developmental stage.
The IOM recommends that to attain quality care, an increment of Baccalaureate Degree
nurses from 50% to 80% by 2020. Such training is costly; however, the same programs are
government funded through the ACA. Therefore, to be part of this group of nurses I will advance
my degree (ASN) to the masters and finally a Ph.D, after application and qualification for such
funding to cover my educational costs.
A higher educational degree implies a change in the level and type of practice. Similarly,
the educational content change and here incorporates managerial and leadership skills. These
will separate me from the rest in the market and due to the skills and knowledge acquired. I will
become one of the top ranking nurse leader and nurse manager in the market. In addition, faculty
members including research fellows in institutions of higher learning are usually graduate degree
holders. Therefore, due to my advanced education I will be part of faculty this will place me in a
position to the management skills in health care through development of better management
guidelines and improve the quality of nursing education. Moreover, as a researcher I will be
among the researchers working on creating and establishing new treatment guidelines that are
patient centered that will improve quality of care provided in the health care system. This will
increase my knowledge and professionalism; therefore, give me competitive advantage over
other nurses.
Quality health care provision is a multidisciplinary undertaking that requires a
collaborative engagement of nurse professionals in the different fields. This is to imply that
health care comprises of different disciplines that integrate to produce the desired output (quality

care). However, to be part of this collaborative team requires a certain level of education higher
than the ASN. These fields include research, APRN, and faculty. These interlink to improve
quality of care and care outcomes. As a researcher, I will identify the existing market gap in
quality care provision and barriers to achieving positive outcomes in healthcare and come up
with new information to fill the gaps and generate methods to deal with such barriers in the
health care system. As a faculty member, I will engage in curriculum development for nursing
education to produce highly qualified and professional nurses at all levels of training and hence
improve the larger health care system. Therefore, I will have a central role in contributing
towards the achievement of IOM recommendations.
