The attachment theory has been one of the most influential ideas in the field of developmental psychology. Years of scientific
research have shown enormous support for this theory. However, more and more reports are emerging that demonstrate all
parents, particularly teenage mothers, are not embracing the available data that stresses the importance of early attachments.
You have been asked to make a presentation for a teen parent support group at your local health department. Utilize the
information in the textbook related to attachment, cognitive, moral, and gender development to design a brochure that can be
used during your presentation. While talking to the teen moms, make sure that you cover elements related to their own
development as adolescents. Do not forget to cover the impact of peer influences on their parenting styles as well.
Your project must include a reference list. You must use your textbook and one additional source in your brochure. All
sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced. Paraphrased and quoted material must have citations as well.

Introduction
Attachment theory describes various dynamics concerning relationships between humans. The theory has various tenets one important
tenet requiring infants to develop relationship with their caregivers for their emotional and social development (Karen, 1998).
However, various studies seem to suggest that teenage mothers are not supporting the need for early attachment.
Discussion
Attachment is essential in the development of a child. Mothers have the responsibility to attach to their children because; children
need safety, security, and protection to promote their development (Grossmann & Waters, 2005). Children attach to caregivers for the
purpose of genetic replication as well as survival.
Development of cognitive, moral and realization of gender are something that are closely related to the level of relationship between
the child and the care provider.
Children learn or emulate their behaviors from the surroundings. Therefore, the people that relate with children should ensure that
they provide them with security, show them love and appreciation. Such relationships help in cognitive development among children
Secure infants are more likely to become socially competent as opposed to insecure peers.
When growing up as infants relating with others is paramount in helping to influence acquisition of social skills, formation of social
identity and intellectual development.
Peer influences affect the parenting styles of teen mothers. Through these interactions, they learn new things as their perception
change and affect the way they raise or relate with their infants (Karen, 1998). For instance, authoritative parents are harsh and set
rules that they require their children to follower. Such parents’ characters or styles of parenting may have been adopted through their
experiences. For instance, they may have grown up in setting where punishment is the only way of correcting behaviour. Therefore,
such affects their style of parenting.
