Emotional Intelligence
ET is the ability to recognize emotions within oneself and recognize the kind of impact
they have on others. Some of my strengths are the fact that I am egoless; this makes me more
inclined to the notion of helping everyone else with their tasks without the need for praise and
credit. I am also very attentive, and I believe this helps me listen keenly to be able to understand
people more. This ability enables me to listen intently to what my collaborators might be
discussing to the extent of understanding in addition to seeking clarifications and asking to
follow up questions. I also intend to practise being more flexible as I believe that not everything
happens the way it is initially planned. This will help me in terms of blending in (Cox, 2011) .
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE 2
Recently while on a collaborative teamwork event, a fellow collaborator expressed
themselves in an openly racially discriminative way regarding a patient’s health concern. They
did so without the fear of the impact it might have and the fact that it was offending to other team
members of a similar race. My emotional intelligence set in and allowed me to hold my
composure and maintain my professionality rather than react in the typical rage and outburst
manner that most people would have done.
ET has made me more calculative and composed in my actions. My resilience levels are
evident, especially every time new collaborative and teamwork activities are initiated, and I am
also able to spend more time outside work with fellow employees.
