The current organizational structure of the Sydney community hospital will not be able to satisfy the changing health needs of the community fully. The organizational structure was meant for a lower level hospital rather than the currently developed one. In the organizational structure, some few missing links need to be corrected. For instance, it is visible that with the addition of some new departments in the hospital, the managerial structure has to be changed to accommodate the current additional structures in the community hospital. Therefore, the present organizational structure has to be developed to adapt to the developing hospital needs (Cummings et al., 2014).
However, there is a positive side to the situation. One of the advantages is that the hospital has since then till now been very helpful to the community. With its range of services that cater for most of the community. The population was less, but now it has increased, and the number of people needing medical attention has increased. Seeing that the previous organizational structure was functional. However, due to the rising demand in the community for health services, the current organizational structure will not be able to adapt to the current condition. Therefore, the structure needs to be changed to function accordingly and satisfy the needs of the community.
The limitations of the current organizational structure are many. The organizational structure of the present Sydney Community Hospital is not able to cater for the large population that has since inhabited the Sydney community. With the rise in population, the demand for health services will also increase. Therefore, there is a growing need for more hospital staff to cater for the increasing demand for health care. There is even much more significance out into the restructuring the organization’s structure to fit the size of the current population (Cummings et al., 2014).
Furthermore, the type of health care needed in the community has since developed. The hospital is therefore not fully equipped to handle various cases of healthcare that is present in the community. To realize a fully functional organizational structure that will cater for all the type of health needs for every person in the community. The organizational structure needs to be structured in a way that almost all the issues identified in the community are catered for. Lastly, the current organizational structure of the Sydney community hospital cannot accommodate some health departments that need to be incorporated into the hospital to increase its efficiency.
A new organizational structure needs to be put in place to realize efficiency in the Sydney community hospital (Yoder-Wise et al., 2014). For example, some issues need to be dealt with or be put into consideration when coming up with an appropriate organizational structure for the Sydney community hospital. Some of the issues include the size of the population, the new departments that need to be put in the hospital and other secondary health care facilities that are of high significance to the community.
The current organizational structure is not able to manage the large size of the current population of the Sydney community. However, an organizational structure needs to be designed. The designed structure needs to cater for the large size of the population in a departmental way. This will help to classify different health cases into various departments. Then the classified cases will be able to manage. Moreover, the size of the available staff of the Sydney community hospital needs to be increased to be proportional to the size of the population.
The other issue that needs to be highly considered is the departments that are to be incorporated into the developing hospital. For the additional units to become successful, one thing needs to be realized. The realization of a comprehensive, management system that will be able to cater for the new and emerging managerial needs of the current hospital. The organizational structure needs to be departmental and specific to realize micromanagement of almost every department in a particular way. Therefore, the new organizational structure needs to be parallel to the organization’s new vision and mission statements. Not forgetting the new strategic goals of the organization.
Regarding the current vision of the organization. The organizational structure needs to be identified in a manner that it accomplished and made a reality of the vision of the hospital. The strategic goals of the vision of the hospital are working towards the provision of positive health experience to the community. Therefore, the organizational structure needs to be structured in a way that one of the need results is the provision of positive health experiences to the community using the Sydney community hospital. Therefore, the whole staff body of the organization should work towards a common goal that is of ensuring the provision of positive health experiences for the community.
Concerning the mission statement of the organization. A new organizational structure that will achieve the goals as stated in the mission statement of the hospital needs to be adopted. The organizational structure to be adopted has to be in line with the current strategic goals of the hospital. A divisional organizational structure needs to be adapted to satisfy fully the mission statement of the Sydney community hospital. As the mission statement states, the new organizational structure that is the divisional organizational structure must strive towards effectively realizing the mission statement of the hospital.
The structure to be adopted in the newly developed Sydney community hospital is the divisional structure. This structure is also known as the product structure. It is one of the most commonly used structure in the modern world of organizational management. The divisional structure tends to focus on the specific functions that take place in the various divisions of an organization. Furthermore, the divisional structure tends to put much emphasis on the process of production or service provision. In this case, considering the divisional structure will be used in the newly developed Sydney community hospital to be able to cater for the different health divisions that are present in the hospital.
In the new structure, different departments of the health facilities in the hospitals will be catered for in the managerial pint of view. According to the fundamental principles of the divisional structure, it is quite serious that the managing team of the hospital clearly identify the various places that need to be considered. The information gained from scrutinization of the organization will help the hospital be able to provide efficiently better health services to the community. The major departments of the hospital will be the first to be put into consideration when implementing the new organizational structure in the Sydney community hospital.
One of the advantages of the new organizational structure to be implemented is that it is specific to the cause of the hospital. For instance, the divisional view of the new organizational structure to be implemented will help divide the large departments of the hospital to help in the micromanaging of the hospital (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, 2011). The managing of a hospital is a very precise process that need keenness. The seriousness comes from the fact that most services provided are done to save lives of fellow human beings. Therefore, it is adamant that the managerial team adapt the divisional organizational structure in the new developed Sydney community hospital.
Secondly, the divisional organizational structure provides a simplified way of dealing with customers in an organization. In the hospital point of view, the patients are considered as the customers during the hospital as the organization. In this perspective, it is easier for the organization to deal with different types of patients that come in to receive health services in the hospital. The different type of patients will be catered to differently according to the category they have been classified in. This will ensure that specialized type of health care is provided to the patients coming into the hospital.
Another significant aspect of the divisional organizational structure that impacts positively on the organizational effectiveness in conducting its work is the division of labor. The divisional organizational structure provides a framework that divides labor into different sections. The division will ensure that different people are concentrated on a specific part of health care, this also maximizes the use of skilled labor. When more staff are employed in the newly developed Sydney community hospital. They will be appointed to various posts all over the hospital. Each employee is focusing on a specific segment of the organization’s role. This goes a long way in ensuring that the strategic goals of the hospital are realized. Not forgetting the vision and mission statements of the newly developed Sydney community hospital.
In summary, the previous organizational structure of the community hospital was not appropriate for use in the newly developed Hospital. Therefore, some changes needed to be put in place to ensure the proper functioning of the hospital. The specific changes included coming up with an organizational structure that is appropriate for the newly developed organization.
